More About Bladder Cancer

In April 2014, Takeda Pharmaceutical and Eli Lily & Co. were ordered by a federal court to pay a combined $9 Billion for hiding the cancer risks of Actos®, and research by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has shown that those taking Actos® have a 40% increased risk of developing bladder cancer. Given the increased risk of bladder cancer in this and numerous studies, France and Germany both suspended the popular drug. The FDA has warned about the potentially life threatening side effects of consumers taking Actos®, but the product has not been removed from pharmacy shelves in the USA.

Signs & Symptoms

Symptoms of bladder cancer may include: blood in urine, pelvic pain, back pain, frequent urination, painful urination and blood in urine or urine may appear darker than normal. Those with bladder cancer may also experience the urge to urinate, but are unsuccessful in doing so. These symptoms are also typical of types of bladder infections: if you are experiencing any of these signs please visit a medical professional.

Diagnosis

Bladder cancer is typically diagnosed in the following ways: urine tests, cystoscopy and/or with a biopsy. During a urine test, a lab checks urine for signs of the disease such as blood and cancer cells. A cystoscopy is performed by a medical professional and works by inserting a thin, lighted tube in through the urethra, into the bladder so that the doctor can see inside and look for abnormalities. A biopsy is when a medical professional removes samples of the bladder tissues to be examined for cancerous cells; this method is usually the most accurate for diagnosing bladder cancer. If you or a loved one was diagnosed with bladder cancer and was taking the prescription diabetes medication Actos® you might be eligible for financial compensation.
