Tepezza (Teprotumumab) is a drug used to treat thyroid eye disease. Most TED cases occur when the patient is diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Thyroid eye disease is an autoimmune condition where white blood cells attack the thyroid gland. As a result, the thyroid produces an excess amount of thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism). This causes inflammation and swelling of the tissue around the eye. The use of Tepezza, however, has recently been linked to permanent hearing loss and/or tinnitus, a ringing in the ears.
Cases of Tepezza users experiencing from moderate to severe hearing loss have been documented. The medical community explored the link between patients administered Teprotumumab and hearing loss.
