Over the past few years, there has been a significant increase in death tolls and injuries due to motorbike accident. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, around 88,000 motorcyclists were injured in US in 2015. The figure has been increasing since then.
An interesting fact is that 13% of road accidents. There is a greater risk of dying and getting severe injuries in a bike accident than any other vehicle.
Causes of Motorbike Accidents
So what are some major causes of these accidents? There are a number of different factors that result in motorcycle accidents. The significant ones include:
1. Left-turn accidents
Very often, motorcyclists do not see the other vehicles coming and turn left. Mostly, these upcoming riders are motorcyclists too. This leads to a crash and can cause severe injuries, and even death.
2. Alcohol or Drug consumption
Many accidents take place when motorcyclists are on alcohol or drugs. Operating a vehicle while you are intoxicated is not only illegal but highly dangerous.
3. Distractions
A lot of accidents take place due to distractions. For example, if you are on phone while driving a motorcycle, you cannot exert your complete focus. Also, if drivers on other motor vehicles are engaged on the phone or other distracting activities, a motorcyclist riding nearby can become the target of an accident.
4. Going above the speed limit
Speed limits come with a great purpose. Roads are marked with speed limits for the safety of drivers. Bikers who ride faster than the speed limits are more likely to get into an accident than the one following speed limit.
When you are riding at a faster speed, you need more time to stop. However, in case of an emergency when you cannot stop your bike immediately, an accident happens.
Other causes include unsafe lane changes, inexperienced driving, and following other vehicles too closely.
